The signing ceremony at the Piraeus Marine Club highlighted the initiative’s focus on developing the next generation of maritime professionals. Students from the University’s Department of Shipping Studies actively participated, underscoring the partnership’s commitment to nurturing leadership and innovation.

Insights from Key Industry Leaders

Dr. Dionysia-Theodora Avgerinopoulou, Special Envoy of the Prime Minister for the Oceans and Chair of the Environmental Committee of the Hellenic Parliament, inaugurated the event: “This partnership represents a significant milestone for maritime education and innovation in marine insurance. It will create new opportunities for students and further strengthen Greece’s maritime cluster. Congratulations to both Hellenic Hull and the University of the Aegean—this collaboration is a vision for the future.”

Mr. Stavros Kalognomos, Executive Secretary of the Balkan and Black Sea Commission of the CPMR, emphasized: “The blue economy is the way forward. This collaboration between Hellenic Hull and the University of the Aegean exemplifies how education and practical application can drive sustainable progress in Europe and beyond.”

Dr. Maria Lekakou, Professor of Maritime Economics at the University of the Aegean, highlighted the importance of connecting theory with real-world practice: “Our students will not only gain theoretical knowledge but also the hands-on skills they need to excel in the shipping industry. CEO Ilias Tsakiris was recognized in The Investor Greece 2019 for his leadership in business and social responsibility. Throughout the year, Hellenic Hull made an impact at key industry events like the Capital Link Cyprus Forum, Insurance Conference, Delphi Economic Forum, and Maritime Cyprus 2019, advancing discussions on marine insurance and sustainability. The association also strengthened stakeholder engagement through presentations in Piraeus, London, and at P&I conferences. A standout moment was Tsakiris’ presentation at the World Maritime University, affirming Hellenic Hull’s dedication to training and education.

By 2001, the tides had shifted in favor of Hellenic Hull Mutual. At its 7th AGM, Hellenic Hull reported an impressive leap in its portfolio. The number of insured vessels had nearly doubled to 222, with a combined entered value exceeding $350 million.

HMA’s Chair Mr. Dounis shared an ambitious vision: the establishment of a marine campus in Greece, dedicated to promoting marine protection and ocean sustainability.

In April, Hellenic Hull made a notable contribution to the Merchant Marine Academy in Hydra, donating a GPS electronic device to enhance the students’ educational experience.
