In February 2022, the American Hellenic Hull Insurance Company rebranded as ASOMIC, American Club (Europe), marking a new phase in the company’s growth and its expansion into the European market, offering protection and indemnity insurance to the global shipping community

In partnership with HELMEPA, Hellenic Hull launched a Sustainable Blue Growth Program aimed at primary school students on remote Greek islands. This initiative reflected the association’s deep commitment to education and environmental sustainability, empowering the next generation to protect their marine environment

At the 1st ESG Shipping Awards 2023, the company received the ESG Community Contribution award for its valuable support of primary schools in remote areas of Greece. Events of 2016

Throughout 2016, the company demonstrated its strengths at prominent industry events. In September, AHHIC made a notable appearance at the 18th Hydra Meeting, followed by participation in the Hall of Fame 2016, and continued with market presentations in both Piraeus and London.

Launch of the American Hellenic Hull

On July 1st, 2016, American Hellenic Hull Insurance Company (AHHIC) officially received its operating license in Cyprus, marking a significant milestone. It was the first licensed marine insurance company in Cyprus under the stringent Solvency II regime. AHHIC’s strong risk management and financial health set it apart from the start, positioning the company as a leader in marine hull and machinery insurance right out of the gate. The collaboration between Hellenic Hull, the exclusive managers of American Hellenic, and the American P&I Club brought together European and U.S. expertise, creating an innovative approach to Hull and Machinery (H&M) insurance. Ilias Tsakiris was appointed CEO of American Hellenic.

Connecting with the Industry

The year opened with the 1st Mare Forum in Mykonos, followed by the Marine Money Cyprus Forum, 19th Hydra Meeting, and various market presentations, conferences and exhibitions including the Maritime Cyprus 2017 Exhibition and Shipmanagement Roundtable. A highlight was the American P&I Club’s 100-year anniversary dinner, alongside the Hall of Fame and roadshows in China, Hamburg, and other locations.

Throughout the year, Hellenic Hull’s influence as Managers of American Hellenic was felt at major industry events, among others Posidonia 2018, the 2nd Annual Capital Link Cyprus Forum, the 18th Mare Forum, the 14th Insurance Conference in Cyprus, and the SAFETY4SEA Cyprus Conference, showcasing its leadership and commitment to the maritime sector.

In a landmark achievement, Hellenic Hull became the first marine insurance management company to join the UN Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEPFI), committing to the Principles for Sustainable Insurance. This move reinforced the association’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and environmental stewardship, placing sustainability at the heart of its operations and aligning with global environmental goals.

The association also strengthened stakeholder engagement through presentations in Piraeus, London, and at P&I conferences. A standout moment was Tsakiris’s presentation at the World Maritime University, affirming Hellenic Hull’s dedication to developing future maritime leaders.

Hellenic Hull’s participation in key industry events continued in 2022, from the CEO’s Initiative by Fortune Greece to the Global Maritime Forum in New York and the Maritime Cyprus Conference. Presentations at Shanghai Maritime University and participation in the IUMI panel discussion in Chicago further underscored Hellenic Hull’s global influence in shaping the future of the maritime industry.

CEO Ilias Tsakiris continued to shape industry discussions, chairing a panel for the Ocean Hull Committee at the IUMI Annual Meeting in Edinburgh.

From hosting a panel on sustainability, emerging talent, and marine insurance trends at the Delphi Economic Forum to participating in the Global Maritime Forum in Athens, the Poseidon Principles for Marine Insurance workshop in Piraeus, the AMCHAM’s Leadreship Forum in Piraeus Marine Club, the Maritime Cyprus Conference, and the Marine Insurance London 2023 Conference, Hellenic Hull reinforced its reputation as an industry thought leader.

Hellenic Hull deepened its commitment to education in 2024 through strategic partnerships aimed at fostering maritime knowledge in insular areas. The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Conference of Maritime Peripheries of Europe reflected the association’s desire to share its expertise in marine insurance with smaller maritime nations, ensuring access to world-class education across Europe.

This collaboration aims to enhance marine insurance education for all ages, from university students to children in remote areas.
Within the pilot period, 26 schools in Greece’s most remote regions joined the E-Sealearning program.

As part of its collaboration with the University of Piraeus, this initiative seeks to strengthen marine insurance education and develop new talent aspiring to enter the industry. The partnership focuses on equipping students with specialized knowledge and skills, preparing the next generation for successful careers in the marine insurance sector.

Driving Digital Transformation Through Artificial Intelligence

In 2024, Hellenic Hull embraced the future of marine insurance through a groundbreaking partnership with Concirrus, an AI-driven technology company. Together, they launched Quest One a cutting-edge platform using analytics powered by Artificial Intelligence to streamline pricing, risk management, and claims processes. This technological leap is reshaping how Hellenic Hull approaches risk assessments and decision-making, setting new industry standards for efficiency and innovation

2024 was a year of high-profile engagements for Hellenic Hull, further solidifying its reputation as a thought leader in marine insurance. At the prestigious Delphi Economic Forum, Hellenic Hull organized two major panel discussions—one on geopolitics and shipping, and the other on marine education. The company’s expertise was also on display at Marine Insurance London 2024, the Marine Insurance Greece 2024, Posidonia 2024 and the Poseidon Principles for Marine Insurance Annual Conference.

Throughout the year, Hellenic Hull made an impact at key industry events like the Capital Link Cyprus Forum, Insurance Conference, Delphi Economic Forum, and Maritime Cyprus 2019, advancing discussions on marine insurance and sustainability. The association also strengthened stakeholder engagement through presentations in Piraeus, London, and at P&I conferences. A standout moment was Tsakiris’ presentation at the World Maritime University, affirming Hellenic Hull’s dedication to training and education.

By 2001, the tides had shifted in favor of Hellenic Hull Mutual. At its 7th AGM, Hellenic Hull reported an impressive leap in its portfolio. The number of insured vessels had nearly doubled to 222, with a combined entered value exceeding $350 million.

HMA’s Chair Mr. Dounis shared an ambitious vision: the establishment of a marine campus in Greece, dedicated to promoting marine protection and ocean sustainability.

In April, Hellenic Hull made a notable contribution to the Merchant Marine Academy in Hydra, donating a GPS electronic device to enhance the students’ educational experience.
